Cleaning business app

The cleaning business app you run from your phone

A cleaning business app should let you run the day from your phone: see today's visits, answer clients, confirm bookings and get paid, while your cleaners get their jobs, checklists and directions on theirs. BroomBook does this as a web app that works in any phone browser. Owners get a dashboard with a bottom tab bar, and each cleaner gets a private link, with nothing to download from an app store.

We make BroomBook. This page covers what the owner, the crew and your clients see on their phones, what being a web app means in practice (good and bad), and the other apps most cleaning businesses use alongside.

$29/mo for up to 2 cleaners, $59/mo for unlimited cleaners. No credit card to start.

  • Works on any phone

iPhone or Android, new or old: if it has a web browser, it runs the owner dashboard and the crew app.

  • Nothing for cleaners to install

Each cleaner opens a private link with their jobs. No app store, no account to create, no update to chase.

  • Routes in their maps app

"Start my day" opens the route in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze, whichever the cleaner already uses.

  • Checklists with photos

Room-by-room checklists, photos per item and clock in and out, all from the same screen.

Can you really run a cleaning business from your phone?

Most cleaning business owners spend their day in homes, in the car or on a job themselves, not at a desk. So the question to ask of any app is not how it looks on a laptop, but whether you can confirm a booking, move a visit, answer a client and take a payment with one hand while standing in someone’s driveway.

That is what BroomBook is built around. The same account works on a laptop when you want a big calendar for planning the week, and on your phone for everything that happens during the day. There is one login and one set of data, so a change on the phone shows up on the computer right away (the calendar updates live).

The owner side: your dashboard in the phone browser

On a phone, the dashboard puts the four places you use most in a bottom tab bar: Today, Calendar, Messages and Clients. Everything else (team, availability, pricing, payroll, insights, settings, help) sits one tap away in the menu. Badges show booking requests waiting for you and unread client messages.

From the phone you can do the daily work, not just look at it:

  • Confirm or decline online booking requests, with a text to the client either way.
  • Move a visit by dragging it on the calendar, with a 6-second undo if your thumb slips.
  • See who is free for a visit, ranked by distance from their previous job, and reassign it in one tap.
  • Read and answer client replies in the Messages inbox.
  • Check out a visit with cash, cheque or e-transfer, tips, one-time discounts and change due, or let the card on file be charged automatically after the job.
  • Open a client to see their homes, access notes, recurring schedule and history.

The crew side: a private link, nothing to install

Each cleaner gets their own private link. They tap it, and they see their jobs. Inside, they get room-by-room checklists with photos, clock in and out, and "Start my day", which opens the day's route in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze. Access notes and alarm codes show on the visit day only.

Job notes are translated into Spanish, French or Portuguese for each cleaner by AI, included on every plan. When a cleaner taps finish, the visit is marked done, the card on file is charged if you take cards, and the client can get a "job done" text. If a cleaner cannot make a visit, they can ask the team to take it: free teammates get a text in their language and take it from their own app.

Cleaners and managers can also have optional logins at no extra cost, and you choose whether each cleaner sees prices and client phone numbers. More on the people side is on our cleaning payroll and time tracking page.

What your clients see on their phones

Clients book from your booking page or a form on your own website, see an instant price from bedrooms, bathrooms, size, type of clean, frequency and extras, and pick an open time. They get a confirmation and a day-before reminder by text and email (texts only go out between 9am and 8pm their time).

Every confirmation and reminder includes the client's own link to move a visit to a time the crew is free, skip a recurring visit or cancel a one-off, up to 12 hours before, or report a problem with photos. Clients never need an app either. The booking side is covered in detail on our cleaning booking software page.

A web app, not an App Store download: what that means

BroomBook is not in the App Store or on Google Play. It is a web app: you open it in Safari, Chrome or any phone browser, and you can add a shortcut to your home screen the way you can for any website. We think that is the right call for a cleaning crew, and it is fair to say plainly what you gain and what you give up.

What you gain:

  • Nothing for cleaners to install. A new hire is working from their link the same day, and a cleaner who leaves loses access as soon as you mark them inactive.
  • It works on any phone, including older Android phones and phones with no storage left for another app.
  • Everyone is always on the latest version. No "please update your app" texts to your crew.
  • No app-store account or password for cleaners to remember.
  • What you give up: there is no native app with app-store push notifications. Alerts reach you and your crew by text and email instead. If a native app is a must for you, see the section below on when to pick something else.

The other apps most cleaning businesses use alongside

No single app runs a whole cleaning business, and it helps to know which jobs belong where. BroomBook covers booking, scheduling, the crew, client records, texts, card payments and payroll numbers. These are the other tools most owners add:

  • Accounting: you still need books for income, expenses and taxes. BroomBook does not sync with QuickBooks, so most owners record revenue from our reports or their payment deposits. Our cleaning business accounting guide walks through the setup.
  • Payments: card payments run through Stripe inside BroomBook. You pay Stripe's processing fee, and BroomBook takes no cut. You do not need a separate card reader app for clients with a card on file.
  • Google Business Profile: free from Google, and it is how many clients find a local cleaner on Search and Maps. Pair it with our optional review request text the day after a visit.
  • Payroll: BroomBook works out hours, tips and commission and exports a CSV. A payroll provider handles paychecks and tax filings.
  • Calendar: if you live in Google Calendar or Apple Calendar, each person gets a private calendar feed of their visits, so nothing needs to be copied over.

Is there a free app for a cleaning business?

Many owners start with free tools: a paper or Google calendar, a notes app, a spreadsheet of clients and texts from their own phone. That works for the first handful of clients. It starts to break when you add a cleaner, because nobody else can see the notes, the codes or the changes you made in your head.

BroomBook is not free. It costs $29/mo for up to 2 cleaners or $59/mo for unlimited cleaners, with no per-cleaner fee, and there is a 14-day free trial with no credit card. Our free tools, like the house cleaning price calculator, cost nothing and need no signup. You can also try the whole app with sample data in the live demo.

Pick something else if...

  • You need a native App Store or Google Play app, for example because your company only allows approved store apps on work phones. We do not have one.
  • You need QuickBooks sync. It does not exist today, so you would record revenue in your books by hand or from reports.
  • You send invoices with net terms to commercial clients. We charge cards after each visit and send receipts; we do not send invoices.
  • You run a multi-trade field service company or a commercial janitorial firm that mainly needs bid management.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is BroomBook on the App Store or Google Play?

No. BroomBook is a web app that runs in any phone browser, on iPhone and Android. You can add a shortcut to your home screen like any website. Cleaners open a private link, so they have nothing to download.

Do my cleaners need to download an app?

No. Each cleaner gets a private link to their jobs, checklists, clock-in and route. Optional logins for cleaners and managers are available on every plan at no extra cost.

What should a cleaning business app do?

At a minimum: show the day’s schedule, let you move and assign visits, keep client and home details including access notes, send confirmations and reminders, give cleaners their jobs and checklists, track time and take payment. Check that it works well on a phone, since that is where most of the work happens.

Is there a free app for a cleaning business?

Free tools like a shared calendar and a spreadsheet work for a few clients. BroomBook is paid ($29/mo or $59/mo) with a 14-day free trial and no credit card, and our free calculators and templates need no signup.

Can I see my cleaning schedule in Google Calendar?

Yes. The owner and each cleaner get a private calendar feed you can add to Google Calendar or Apple Calendar.

Does the crew app work in Spanish?

Job notes are translated into Spanish, French or Portuguese for each cleaner, and swap requests reach teammates by text in their language. Client booking pages, texts and emails are available in English or French.

Does it work without an internet connection?

It is a web app, so the phone needs a mobile data or Wi-Fi connection to load jobs and save clock-ins and photos. If your crew often works without signal, test it in those homes during the free trial.
