How we count visits to our website
We measure visits to broombook.com ourselves, with no analytics company involved and no cookies, so there is nothing to accept and no banner to close. The same counting covers the booking pages and booking widgets that cleaning businesses publish with BroomBook. Nothing is counted inside the owners’ and cleaners’ apps or on the private links we send to clients.
For each page viewed we record:
- the page’s address, without anything after the “?”;
- the website that linked to it (for example google.com), and campaign tags such as utm_source when the link had them;
- your country and region, as reported by our hosting provider, and the kind of device (phone, tablet or computer);
- roughly how long the page stayed open and visible, in steps of 10 seconds.
To tell one visitor from another without identifying anyone, our server combines your IP address and browser details with a random value that changes every day, and keeps only a scrambled result of that combination. Your IP address is never stored. The random value of each day is deleted two days later, after which nobody, including us, can link a recorded visit back to a device or person, or connect your visits on different days.
We keep individual page views for 60 days and daily totals (visitors per page, per source, per country) for 25 months, so we can compare a year with the year before. We use these numbers only to understand which pages help cleaning businesses and to keep the site working; we never sell them or use them for advertising.
Visits from known crawlers, automated tools and datacenter networks are left out, and so are our own visits.
